Davy Process Technology

I have worked in the chemical industry for 20 years and during most of that time served on safety committees, recently this role expanded to include site safety advisor.

Because of this I attended the NEBOSH certificate course and it filled in many gaps in my
knowledge of H&S and exploded many myths.

The course was exceptionally well presented, comprehensive and pitched at just the right
level to get the information across in a relevant manner.

Since completing the course I have made some major changes within my company to bring
it into line with current practice (eg Working at Height Regulations) as well as using the
material many times a day when advising on H&S matters which I am now able to do
confidently knowing that I am basing this advice on solid facts.

The training went very well and everyone was impressed with the venue and Andy’s training. We’re glad we did the training off site and over two days and not split it over four half days.

Please thank all concerned for a useful and enjoyable training programme.

I really enjoyed the two day training course that you ran. Although I am obviously familiar with the content of the course you made it very interesting and enjoyable. I know from speaking to other people on the course that they felt the same.

You probably know already that I received a credit in my NEBOSH exam, with which I am delighted, please pass my thanks on to all involved, just to let you know that I am the Project Manager for the re-painting of Tower Bridge and my safety qualification played a major part in securing the job.

Please pass on my thanks and regards to all.

Paul Tranter joined Teesside Power Station (TPS) in early May 2008 as a Health & Safety Adviser to assist the station’s SHE Department through what has been an extremely busy outage period.
For most of the time Paul worked to an agreed schedule of work but when the situation presented itself he took the initiative and resolved H&S issues in a professional manner.

Paul integrated himself well with not only the station operations and maintenance staff on site but also with all contract companies used on TPS throughout the outage period.

He was instrumental in delivering over 320 hours of inductions to staff and contractors alike, getting involved with contractor Safety Awaydays as well as monthly SHE communications meeting held on site.

Monitoring the issues identified from Management Behavioural Audits, Accidents, Incidents and Near Misses, Paul was able to trend areas of concern and highlight areas of good practice, both of which are seen as learning points for the 2009 outage period, some of which have been used to enhance our existing Health & Safety Management System.

Preparing many toolbox Talks and Safety Alerts, Paul was able to bring home to all the importance of learning from mistakes and ensuring no recurrence of these issues. Alongside this he prepared and distributed over 17 station Newsletters showing learning points from incidents, spot prizes awarded for outstanding safety actions, highlighting on a regular basis our Hot Topics for the outage.

Paul’s flexibility with regards to stations requirements was never brought into question, even attending site out of hours to conduct interviews with nightshift personnel.
